The race isn't until July, but I'm already excited for the challenge! I'm going to do the 50K option, which is 31 miles. If you know me, your reaction might be "Well, shouldn't you run a full marathon first?" Well, that was my husband's and my mom's reaction at least :) So since I've never run a full marathon, I'm also signing up for this race:
The CBRC (Cheasapeake Bay Running Club) Lower Potomac River Marathon on March 13th.
Signing up for this marathon works out really well with my half marathon on Saturday. If I do 14 miles the next weekend, I'll be right on track with my long runs to be done just in time for the full marathon. I'm only going to train up to 20 miles (instead of the 22 that some people choose to do) and I'll have a taper period with one shorter run before the marathon.
Biggest obstacle for this race: no portable listening devices are allowed. That means no iPod. That means just me and my thoughts for 4+ hours. Honestly, I have no clue what I'm going to do with myself for that time, especially since it's a small local race and there won't be much to look at other than the water and some birds.
I have other races on the horizon too:
April 3rd: Cherry Pit 10 mile Race in Annapolis, MD
May 21st: Warrior Dash (I'm super excited for this one!)
June 12th: EX2 Off-Road Half Marathon in Triangle, VA (right by Quantico)
I'm also planning on running the Annapolis 10 miler, but I don't know a date for that yet.
I'm really excited about my upcoming races and I have so much to learn about trail running and hydration (it's going to be HOT for that 50K), but I can't wait!

Fun! There is nothin' like a few good races to keep your running and motivation in high gear.
ReplyDeleteAwesome. Inspirational.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on taking the plunge and signing up for not one but TWO big races!
ReplyDeleteWoohoo-way to jump right in!
ReplyDeleteomg, just hearing about your plans makes me tired : ) How exciting though! Way to just go for it!
ReplyDeleteOMG THE WARRIER DASH!?? that is more insane than doing a marathon and 50K on the same day! good luck in your adventures! :)
ReplyDeleteHmmm, I was under the impression that the Warrior Dash would be more fun than hard. Don't tell the other women on my team :)
ReplyDeleteOh my super goodness gracious! You have some BIG running goals ahead of you!! Wow! Good luck with all of them!
ReplyDeleteWhy can't you have your iPod? I don't understand the no listening devices allowed rule...
Megan- there are no iPods allowed because they aren't closing the roads for the marathon (it's that small) I guess they don't want us to get hit by cars :)
ReplyDeleteA 50k? Wow! Good luck! At this point I feel like a marathon will max me out, but I guess I won't know until I try.
