We have a situation here

No, not that kind of situation :)

Good news first: My half marathon is still on for tomorrow, despite the snow!

Bad(ish) news: Most of the 8 inches of snow are still on the ground and more is currently falling. The race is held in a national park on a non-plowed tow path.

So this race just got elevated to "adventure racing", or "Geez I'm nuts for doing this". I'm not going to try to break any records tomorrow, I'm just going to try to finish the race without falling down!

Honestly, I've never run through snow before, but I've run on plowed roads which I imagine is much easier. So, I'm packing dry socks and my Uggs for after the race and I will be very liberal with the Body Glide on my feet before the race to try to avoid blisters. I'm betting I won't even be able to feel my feet, so blisters shouldn't be an issue during the race. :)

I think you all can brace yourselves for an epic race recap after this one tomorrow!

  1. Much luck to you! Maybe you should use the BOB without Faith in it, just for balance. Is that allowed?

  2. Fun! Maybe get some Yak Trax? They can be lifesavers in the snow.

  3. I am so nervous about this race/excited to see what it will be like! I did a 6 mile run through snow in my hometown which was pretty rough. Maybe they will magically have it plowed? There are sidewalk plows!

  4. Oh goodness, I hope everything goes well! I have no words of advice, except to be careful! I know you've trained hard and have planned on doing this race for a long time now, but if it seems too dangerous, don't push it.
Looking forward to hearing about it tomorrow!

  5. whoa I do not envy you right now! I think I would back out if it were me. I don't think I could handle running in snow like that but that's awesome that you are still going to do it.
