It takes two to mango...

At the grocery store last weekend, I picked up a mango for Faith to try. I love mangoes, but I hardly ever buy them because they are so expensive. I figured it was worth it since it was for the baby :)

Last night I peeled and cut up the mango and my husband and I both tasted it...it was one of the best mangoes I have ever tried. Perfectly sweet and ripe! So I chopped it up, steamed it, and then pureed it. I gave Faith her first taste of mango this afternoon and here is her reaction:

Before I tortured my kid with fresh fruit, I took her for a fantastic four mile run this morning. Why was it fantastic? Because it was already 47 degrees at 8am! I ran in short sleeves and it was glorious. Now it's 66 degrees and sunny and when Faith wakes up from her afternoon nap, I think we're going to go for a walk!

Tomorrow is predicted to be 70 degrees, so I'm already excited about that! :)

Are you a fan of mango?

  5. lol to Brian's comment above!!

Based on everything I've read, with fresh fruit that's soft, such as a mango (or banana or berries or things of that nature) you don't need to steam it. Just puree it.
I don't know if the steaming would change the flavor or not, but it would definitely make your job a little easier.

  6. Megan - your comment is hilarious because I had a discussion with my husband: "Do I need to steam it? Or can I just puree it?" and neither of us knew, so I just steamed it anyway. It still tasted great (yes, I ate some...did I mention that I love mango?) :P
