Mommy 0, Baby 1

We did our usual Wednesday run with the stroller this morning. I wait until after Faith has napped, pooped, and eaten and then I put her in the stroller. Normally she dozes in the stroller while I run, so I don't bring more than one toy. Today she decided to stay awake the whole time and she also decided when we were a mile and half from the house that she was tired of sitting in the stroller.

She spent the first 4 miles kicking the stroller and trying to take her Robeez shoes off (endless entertainment). Then she started screaming and fussing. Since she hardly ever makes a peep in the stroller, I stopped to see if anything was pinching her or otherwise bothering her. Nope, and when she saw me, she started laughing like I told her the world's funniest knock knock joke. Then I went back around to push and she starting screaming again.

At this point I realized that the only solution was to get home so she could get out of the stroller, so I just tried to pick up the pace and cut my run half a mile short. I ended up giving her my sunglasses and that kept her satisfied until we got home. Now that we're back, she's happily playing in her toy room and I'm pooped from the speedy return home with the stroller in the crazy wind.
What? I'm just a baby

I'm only helping train Mommy to be faster
I ordered myself a Bondi Band and it came yesterday. I tried it out on today's run and it's great. It kept the sweat off my face and my hair from getting too crazy in the wind. When I first put it on yesterday, Faith couldn't stop laughing at me. It was even funnier to her than when I wear a hat. Plus, I love the vaguely offensive message:

It was warm enough to wear shorts today! I may end up wearing shorts for my marathon, so I thought I'd bust them out for today's run.

I actually shaved my legs!
Here are my mile times:

Mile 1: 9:07
Mile 2: 9:15
Mile 3: 9:19
Mile 4: 9:14
Mile 5: 9:09 (this included a huge hill)
Last half mile:8:51 pace

5.56 miles in 51:03 (9:11 average)

Normally I am way too anal retentive to end a run at an uneven interval like that, but I wasn't sure how long my sunglasses were going to work to keep her from squawking, so I just ended it there.

Also, I don't remember noticing this last year, but it is always windy here. At least if it's windy for my marathon, I won't be pushing a stroller. :)

Check out my guest post over at The Daily Balance (she just had her baby!!) on finding time to workout with a baby!

  1. I guess Faith is just trying to make sure you're ready for your stroller race challenge?

Love the Bondi band - I have a bunch of them and they are always helpful when working out!

  5. I think i need a Bondi Band. How does it work? Since my hair's short now, the sweat drips all down the back of my neck and, towards the end of my workout it makes me cold, plus I end up dripping disgustingness all over the gym. (I sweat way more than any human ever should).

  6. Emily, it's kind of an absorbent material, so it sucks up a lot of sweat. I sweat a LOT and it worked for me.

  8. Haha I love "just helping Mommy to be faster!". Running with a baby sounds tough, I guess you just have to be flexible. I love my bondi bands. I am so jealous of your run in shorts (actually the fact that you can run at all!).

  10. Your Bondi Band is too funny. I have one too. And the other day while trying to nap in a sunny room I found out that they also work as sleep eye masks, haha.
