Exhausting Weekend

Man, what a tiring weekend! By last night, I felt just like Faith looks in this picture taken right before she went down for her afternoon nap (that's banana yogurt all over her):

Getting spoon fed is so exhausting
I had a pretty good run on Saturday morning. I choose a fairly hilly route (for around here) and did a 6.2 mile loop twice. I like to do runs that loop by my car so I can refill my water, so it worked out well. I was feeling very unmotivated to do that 2nd loop, but I actually did the second loop faster than the first once I forced myself to leave my car.

Einstein's addition has added a lot of chaos to our family. I'd like to sugarcoat it and say "Getting a rescue dog is easy!" but that would be a lie. I'm sure there are tougher rescue dogs out there, but Einstein is much more of a puppy that we originally thought and he has boundless energy. In many ways, he reminds us of Peanut as a puppy. He is scared of everything, including but not limited to:

  • Going outside
  • Going for a walk
  • Eating
  • The grill outside
  • Loud noises
  • Petco
  • Parking lots
  • Rise of Hezbollah
He won't go outside in our yard without me dragging him (or carrying him) and I'm taking him out every hour (that he's awake), so I'm getting an upper body workout. Even with my schedule, he still had 3 accidents so far. At least he's pooping outside?

We have our work cut out for us with Einstein. The first thing I need to work on is getting him to walk in the neighborhood without falling to the ground in fear and refusing to move. We have a very unscary neighborhood (think Leave It to Beaver, but more rural), and we didn't even see a car. I can't exercise him if he won't walk or play in the yard, so then we're stuck with a very energetic puppy inside. My goals for this week are to get him to walk without freaking out as much and to see forward progress in potty training.

Why is this "thing" on my couch with me?

Peanut stink eye

Peanut is taking the brunt of his puppy playfulness
Peanut was really getting irritated with him yesterday, so we had to try to separate them and give Peanut a chance to relax. At least when Faith was constantly playing with Einstein's dog tags, Einstein didn't care at all and let her do it. Also, maybe Peanut will finally lose those pesky "Baby throws her food to me" 5 pounds.

My husband had a good Father's day. I made pecan sticky buns for breakfast and then we had a steak dinner with baked potatoes and salad. Faith was so thoughtful and got him some coffee from Costa Rica and a planner. She even watched sports with him. She's the only other person in this house who is willing to sit and watch baseball or golf with him. :)

Daddy, what are the "Twins" and why are we wearing their shirts?
What are your goals this week? Mine involve Einstein peeing outside only and making forward progress on planning bridal shower games for my best friend.

  1. Yay Twins!! (says the MN native....)

Good luck with Einstein - I'm sure it will just take a while for him to settle in. My cat is still adjusting to moving into my boyfriend's house 7 weeks ago!

  2. I hope things with Einstein get better. I wish your initial experience was a little better. Did his foster family not take him outside? That's kind of strange. Peanut probably feels jet-lagged.

You're planning a bridal shower and I'm helping plan a baby shower (that isn't until Labor day). My goal this week is to start on the invitation design. Too bad I have to do work first. Booo.

  3. Peanut definitely looks done with Einstein in those pictures. My dogs play really hard and then Rufus hides behind us to get away from Delilah, so I think it's normal. We used to put treats out for Delilah outside until she realized it was the cool place to be. I'm not sure if that's a recommended strategy, but it worked for us.

  6. Poor Peanut! I take it this is before disaster struck?

  7. Go Twins! That photo is adorable!

My dog still gets randomly freaked out of things on our walks and will immediately drop to the group and make herself heavy as possible. It is mostly sewer grates that causes this...weird.

  8. Good job finishing out that run! And those sticky buns sound delightful. I bet he loved you making those for him. :)
