Yes, I know. My kid is a linguistic genius and her verbal skills are blowing you away. Her verbal skills aren't the strongest for her age, but in her defense she has devoted most her energy to growing bigger than many 2 year olds. Her vocabulary mostly centers on screaming "HEY!" when Peanut barks and saying "Hi!" and "Bye!" which sound suspiciously alike.
I'm actually not worried that she's currently "behind" on verbal development, mostly because we do a lot of nonverbal communication. Also, I know she can say words like "book" and "dog", but if you ask her to say it, you'll just get a dirty look. She's really my kid, so I know to just let her do it on her own time and the more I pester her, the longer it will take. :) Also, I think I might have higher standards than normal for counting "words". If you spend enough time with a baby, you just start to hear things (did she just say "Shit"?!?) but I don't count it as a new word unless it's really clear and she says it more than once.
This weekend will my first run on the trails since my 50K in July. I can't believe it's been this long, especially considering how much I enjoy running (and falling) on trails. We have a good sized group meeting up and I already picked up necessary supplies like Coke and Oreos! The best part is that it will be cool, not unbearably hot like the last time we ran trails.

I'm doing my 10 mile run this morning since my husband has off from work. After that I get to go to the dentist to get two cavities filled. I'm really not excited about the needles in my gums aspect, but at least I can stop by Chik-fil-a for a milkshake lunch on the way home.

| Almost worth a trip to the dentist. Almost. |
Tomorrow is Peanut's first (and possibly only) race! My mom is going to walk the 5K with Faith while I run with Peanut, so hopefully she can take some good action shots. :)
Do you know what your first word (other than Mommy or Daddy) was?
What's your favorite kind of milkshake? I'm a big fan of the cookies and cream one from Chik-fil-a!

Faith is so frickin adorable!
ReplyDeleteI want to come run trails. I still have a dream of running a trail race someday. When are you moving to NC so you can kick my ass into shape for real?
Normally they numb your gums first, so you can't really feel the needle. Afterwards, though, having numb lips is just funny. Good luck keeping the milkshake from running down your face :) I'm with you on the cookies-n-cream shakes from chick-fil-a. Now I want one!
My first word was actually a sentence..."f*ck you." That actually came before Mommy and Daddy. I also learned to curse in Yiddish pretty early. Needless to say, I've had a colorful vocabulary most of my life. And I love that video, Faith has the best facial expressions!
ReplyDeleteThat cookies and creme one is incredible, not sure it's worth a trip to the dentist but it's close. That deserves extra whip too. I am pretty excited it will not be 90 at the start like our last run. I am boiling potatoes Saturday night.
ReplyDeleteI wish I was a part of the dream team!
ReplyDeleteI have no idea what my first word was. I should investigate. I bet it was something funny, because I'm so funny.
I am sure my first word was lame, but my sister's is memorable. "Bob Vila." Yes, the home improvement guy.
ReplyDeleteI just was talking yesterday with a lady who ran the Grand Island Trail Marathon in Michigan. Heard of it? I might try to get it on my calendar for next year!
Heehee "woof" what a cutie!
ReplyDeleteI can't stand when parents push their kids to reach milestones and/or act like their kids are perfection. What is the point? They reach them when they want to, so why frustrate them before they are ready? Cameron's still not walking and no real words yet. I don't do anything to push the walking, just applaud him when he gets up to stand not hanging on to anything and he gets the biggest thrill out of it. When he points to things and says, "Ussah" (What's that?) I tell him what they are and eventually he will say them. He does the Dada a lot and has repeated sounds on occasion and "used to" say "Mamamama" but hasn't in a while.
It doesn't bother me in the least. Except at his 1 yr appointment the doc asked about his "verbal language" and if he was making different sounds etc and then I was like "oh yeah, sure!" because since he started babbling months ago he could make all kinds of consonent sounds, but then I started worrying because I starting thinking "what did she mean by SOUNDS?" and "should he be saying more?" when it's all rubbish. What would she have said if I said No? Send him to a speech pathologist at 13 mths? Umm, no..silliness.
Faith is just too darn cute! I'm pretty sure my first word was ice. Totally random.
ReplyDeleteThat video is awesome. The end.
ReplyDeleteMy little ones all talked way too early for me. just kidding, a little.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to read all about your trail run. If only I could run trails every run! No that wouldn't be any good because my family would miss me too much since I'd always want to do long runs. Hoepfully I'll be able to do trails this weekend (if I'm lucky).
I'm not a big fan of drinking calories so shakes and such are not a big desire of mine. I am excited because a new Carrabba's opened up and Hubbs and I are getting take out from there tonight. I won't wanna share!
No idea what my first word was--probably something dull or I would remember hearing about it. You are right about word "standards" for babies. A friend of mine claims her child can say so many things...but I'm pretty sure 85% of them are variation of "bleug".
ReplyDeleteShe's NOT behind. Believe me I was soooo worried about Logan and apparently they only need to be saying 5 words by 18 months. Now logan doesn't shut up. He still isn't talking talking but He knows ALL of his letters :) lol Faith is FINE :D and the cutest girl ever!!!
ReplyDeleteI think Faith is ahead of the game! Caleb didn't start doing anything other than grunt until he was 2. :P He's really only picked up on the language in the last year or so, and sometimes I still can't understand him. :P
ReplyDeleteShe's so cute. :)
I think oreos (I like fig newtons) would be great when running, but I don't know that I could drink coke. Love coke, but I think the carbination would mess up my stomach.
ReplyDeleteM has always been a bit ahead of the curve in speech. Let's just say its not a blessing to have a sass-mouthing, way too smart for her own good two year old. ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute video!!!! I am a huge fan of milkshakes - my favorite is the seasonal one at Chikfila - Peppermint Chocolate Chip, I believe. YUM!
ReplyDeletemcdonald's has pretty good milkshakes.
ReplyDeletei'm betting your 5K with peanut will be a bit more adventurous than my 5K with hawk!
If you were really hardcore, you'd push the stroller on the trail run. That way all the soda and stuff would come with us.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, and you'd get a nice workout too.
Plus Peanut could come. She could jump in the stroller after the first loop.
My first word was cheese. I'm not surprised. Good luck tomorrow!! I can't wait to hear how it goes!!
ReplyDeleteLove the video-that was a perfect woof if I ever saw one. I secretly like the fact that my kid(17 months) does not talk yet-I am enjoying the silence while I can! Also, I have no idea when they are suppose to start talking. To google, it is! :P
ReplyDeleteWill there be beggin strips at the trail run?
ReplyDeleteHA!!!! She is HILARIOUS! I love the "drunk-stumble" walk LOL
