Men and toddlers have the same sense of humor

Proof:

There is really nothing funnier than making the dog wear a hat. Even if the kid was asleep, my husband would still be doing it and laughing. Soon after this was filmed, I had to take the hat away and put it in the closet because Faith wanted to keep going, but Peanut was just done. You know how dog rescue agencies are always looking for people who are home during the day to adopt dogs so they won't be alone all the time? I feel like Peanut is going to put her own Petfinder ad out for a home with people who all work and let her sleep all day in peace.

Today was a really beautiful day, but it was also really windy (such shocking weather for March). My 4 mile stroller run absolutely sucked. Well, the first 2 miles were ok...because the wind was at my back. It was really the way home that killed me. The wind was so strong that Peanut wouldn't even open her eyes (and kept bumping into my leg as a result) and all of Faith's hair was standing up. I was hating life pushing the stroller and was super slow coming home.

The wind helps me blow bubbles, so quit yer bitching Mommy!

Since I came home so dejected from the 4 mile run, I didn't expect great things from my treadmill run 45 minutes later (after toddler play time, lunch time and nap time) and I told myself to just get through 4 more miles. Surprisingly, I had a great run and went for over 5 miles, so I guess I just needed some time to regroup.

After nap time, Faith and I spent the rest of the afternoon outside playing in the driveway and she invited herself over to play soccer with our next door neighbor's kids. She is obsessed with balls (and screams "BALL!" when she sees one) and she actually played with the other kids by passing the ball, so that's some kind of developmental step. I think...I don't know, I stopped reading those developmental guides because it's such boring reading (and hardly ever accurate). Let's just say my kid is a genius.

I'm running a 10 mile race on Sunday morning (the Cherry Pit 10 Mile), so I'm looking forward to just showing up and racing and not worrying about registration or timing. The only bummer is that I'm not allowed to bring Peanut. She's going to be so pissed to be left at home because she doesn't know many things, but she knows when I dress in running clothes and leave without her that she's missing out. Her life is truly full of suffering.

Are you racing this weekend?

  1. I knew you weren't running Cherry BLOSSOM. But, still got really excited when I read, "I'm running a 10 mile race on Sunday morning (the Cherry ..."

    That video makes me smile.

  2. Not racing, but I am a "Course Marshal / Sentry" for Cherry Blossom. It sounds so official. I don't know if I'm responsible enough for that.

  3. Yes, I can so relate. How old is your daughter? Mine was born in August 2010, they look close in age. That would be my daughter and husband if we had a dog, which will hopefully be within the next couple of months. I am coming to you to find out how to train my future dog to run with me!!

    1. Faith will be 2 in June, so she's pretty close to your daughter in age!

The key to getting a dog to run well with you is having a really solid "heel". Once they heel well, then it's easier to run because they stay in one spot and don't trip you up. :)

    2. She's a cutie!
Good to know about the dog...my husband is pretty anxious about getting one!

  4. I think Faith and Jeff are the same person. Also, I'm surprised that Peanut didn't express her anal glands after the hat incident. And if she did, I'm even more surprised we didn't hear about it =)

When we first got the cats, we thought it would be funny to dress them up in halloween costumes - one was a pumpkin, and the other was a chicken. But Zoe went crazy and refused to be subjected to that kind of humiliation, so we dressed Charlie in both of them and took pictures, cause he's Zoe's bitch.

  5. Peanut is pretty obviously planning to kill you all in your sleep. Or at least leave her butt juice all over your favorite stuff.

  6. I kind of agree with Sarah - but it is pretty hilarious. Happy racing!

  7. Yup, I am racing Saturday in a 10K. Should be fun. Its an inaugural race through this whole Scioto Mile thing they developed in Columbus. Good luck with your race! Who hasn't dressed up their dog and laughed hysterically?! We don't have kids and have been known to do it a few times. Excellent entertainment!

  8. I feel much better about forcing my cats to wear hats now. I am completely amused by these kinds of things!

  9. Hahaha, Tals TOTALLY knows that workout clothes usually mean something great for her :) I've actually gotten to the point where I sneak out to my garage and put my running shoes on out there so she doesn't see! I know, lame.

  10. I'm running in my first race thus Saturday. 15k Birch Bay Road Race. :)

  11. Poor Peanut! That video is so funny, the things we do to our pets!

I am doing a 5k this weekend, I wish I could find a longer race but this will have to do!

    Good luck!

  12. Have fun at your race. Peanut seemed to realize part of the way through that video that she should probably just accept the hat!

  13. good luck! i love 10-milers. i have a 10-miler (broad street run in philly) on may 6 and i can't wait for it.

  14. I'll admit it. I laughed too.

  15. Peanut ran with her eyes closed? Amazing. Bungee ran into a pole the other day because a helicopter distracted her.

    1. Glad my dog isn't the only one who has done that. My dog was distracted by her favorite facilities guy at our old apartment complex who carried around dog treats...she was staring at him and walked straight into a phone pole.

  16. That video was pretty funny :) Poor Peanut. First forced to wear a hat, then left out of Sunday's race. I hope you give her extra treats for her suffering :) Good luck Sunday!

  17. Good luck at your race. I will be running a half this weekend!

  18. Awww cute little doggie, my husband thought it was hilarious to put some tape on ours :-(

  19. Love the video with Jeff, Faith, and Peanut. There is just something about a small child's laughter that just floods one with joy. Wonderful.

I'm doing a marathon this weekend, and the forecast calls for wind about 15-20 mph in my face for about 19 of those miles (its sort of a point to point), so I'll probably be "hating life" as well...but still running, so I'll be having fun.

Hope you and your family have a great weekend !

  20. The best is how Peanut just concedes and sits there to endure the giggles and laughs - god love her lol

Faith is absolutely normal, even if she doesn't actively call out "Mama" to you on a regular basis. I'm betting it's because you're always there and she takes you for granted (in a good way). Cameron is really only starting to say more now and I only get the "Mama" when I'm not in the room (i.e. yelling up the stairs to me when I'm getting ready for work in the morning and he's down with Daddy. He's just now starting to say more objects too and would much rather take my hand and pull me here and there or point and just nod yes or no when I ask what I think it is he wants. I need to stop giving him the yes/no questions and try to put him in more situations where it's not "easier" to just nod.

  21. Peanut's life is definitely full of suffering. ;-) What a lucky dog to get in all those runs.

I believe the development phase is "parallel play" (aka the kids play near each other but don't really interact) vs "playing together" (which I'm sure has some sort of more official name.) Sometimes I wish my kids were still in the parallel play phase. There would be less arguing, for sure. :-)

  22. So I was cracking up along with Faith and the hubby. Does that make you respect me less?

  23. I'll be thinking of you on Sat! I love the ten mile distance. Do you run 7 days a week? You get in some impressive mileage!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. No, I take one or two full rest days a week (depending on how I feel). I used to always take 2 full rest days when I did long runs, but now I don't feel like I need as much time off since I don't have to factor in recovery.

  24. Love the video! I think that getting to the point of interactive play as young as Faith is totally qualifies her as a genius!! No race for me this weekend, but I'm sure you'll have fun, although poor Peanut will be very sad!

  25. I am not racing this weekend, and very excited for the break. But enjoy the 10 miler!

(Sunglasses on dogs are pretty entertaining, too)

  26. Where's the video of Peanut running in her hat?

For that matter, where's the video of Faith holding Peanut's tail whilst Peanut tries to run?

Have a talk with the videographer please.

  27. I finally got to watch that video and it's pretty hilarious. My mom and stepdad called me to tell me how much they enjoyed it. So it appealed to your lurker audience as well as commenters.

The news that you as a reporter tend to report must be based on fact. Approximate 46% of the daily newspapers are vernacular, 45% of them publish in Hindi and only 10% in English.
