Craving a good pony ride

I've long thought that Faith was a country girl at heart because she loves country music, but now I'm positive about it. On Saturday morning, I tried to go for an early morning run, but it was already so hot so we ended up walking most of the 2.5 miles. We also stopped at 3 yard sales, which seemed to be how my neighborhood wanted to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. I didn't find anything I really wanted, except for some baby stuff but they weren't on board with my haggling so I didn't buy anything. I thought it was pretty well known that labeled prices are a starting point, but if people don't want to play that game, they can drag their used shit back inside their house at the end of the sale and put it away again. If you couldn't tell, it's really fun to buy a car with me too.

It is so embarrassing to go places with you.

After my aborted run, I took Faith over to the fairgrounds for a "Spring Fair" so we could get out of the house and give my husband some quiet to do homework. I knew we wouldn't last long in the hot sun (by we, I mean me), so I tried to just hit the highlights of the fair for Faith. My campaign to get Faith to love horses is wildly successful and she had her first pony ride and LOVED it.

A western saddle? Mommy, I can't jump in this.

Ok, let me go. I know how to do this, I ride the dog all the time.

Doesn't she look way older than a month short of 2 on that pony? Now I want to sign her up for lead pony lessons. It was a great little pony too. I grew up riding that type (Pony of the Americas) and they are the best tempered ponies you can find. I wanted to put him in my pocket and sneak him home with me. Faith couldn't stop laughing the whole ride and even the old farmer guy leading the pony was cracking up at her level of delight.

If the pony ride wasn't enough, then we got to watch the farm animals get fed. It was like shit just got real, farm style.

She just really, really likes farm animals. At least being there at feeding time made sure the animals were noisy for her!

After the fair, I was able to take her home and put her down for her nap and then run on the treadmill in the AC to make up for that morning. It was still really warm later, so we pulled out the pool for Faith but then as soon as it was full, the clouds rolled in so she didn't get to stay in that long because she was so cold.

It's COLD! Where is my heated pool?

Today didn't involve any pony rides, but I did get to go to a running club group run. I've been enjoying joining people for their recovery runs so they don't mind going slowly for me and I don't feel guilty about ruining anyone's workout. I brought the dog with me and after 6 miles, she and I were both just exhausted and done so we cut out a little early. I walked a little extra to make it an even 10K and enjoyed the breeze on the boardwalk (we ran on Solomon's Island). It was a cool morning, so we hadn't started our run until 10am so by the time we finished, I was thinking of lunch and stopped and got gyros for myself and my husband on the way home. I got home just in time to inhale a gyro and put the kid down for a nap and then take a nap myself. It was pretty much an ideal morning.

Speaking of gyros, I should add that my pregnancy cravings are pretty ridiculous this time. On Friday I had a strong NEED for a large amount of avocado sushi, so I had my husband go and get take out for us (don't worry, he got normal food).

Many avocados had to die to make this meal.

Then at some point last week I got the idea in my head that I NEEDED a summer roll. We don't have any Vietnamese places around here, so I can't just buy one. I know how to make them, but that also means I know how much work it takes. It took 2 trips to buy ingredients (the Asian grocery store and normal grocery store) and about an hour of work, but it was so worth it.

Don't worry, I made way more than four.

I even shared with my husband. He gets to live with all of my fun cravings, what a lucky guy. He actually liked the summer rolls, probably because of the spicy peanut dipping sauce I made to go with it. If you know me, you know that spending that much time making dinner barely even happens when I'm cooking Thanksgiving, so this is really noteworthy.

On the running front, I'm still feeling ok with running at 14 weeks and covered about 39 miles this week. I've been getting larger in the belly and it's been slowing me down even more, but it still feels good to be able to run. If the weather cooperates, I've planning on running another 5K on Saturday with Faith and the dog, mostly because my husband needs peace and quiet for doing homework and a 5K sounds like a fun way to make that happen. Normally I would say paying for a 5K and not planning on trying to race it and beat my PR would be a waste of money, but pregnancy has made me ok with wasting money. Really, you should see my grocery bill lately.

When was the last time you really craved a food item and had to make it for yourself?

  4. Before I found out I was pregnant (actually a few days before) I had a huge craving for banana bread. I thought it was odd considering I hadn't had banana bread in YEARS. I shrugged it off and made it. Four days later I had a huge surprise... I was pregnant and understood my need for banana bread.

I also had a huge craving for mashed potatoes. Lucky for me this was right after thanksgiving and potatoes were on sale. I think I bought two five pound bags and made then every couple days.

I love the video of Faith! I love how excited she is!

  5. I am not answering your italicized question. BUT - today we took my little (16 months) to the dog park, and she just watched from the outside. She would mostly woof, but when she got real excited, she would let out a big mmMMMOOOO!! because those are the only two animal sounds she knows.

  7. How fun for Faith-- she does look older than 2! I am now craving sushi and spring rolls... I've only made spring rolls a few times, and they were okay, but I need to get that spicy peanut sauce down. Mmmm.

  8. You run more pregnant than I do in marathon training. Awesome.

I'm jealous of Faith's pool. Mine isn't quite as snazzy.

    1. Faith's pool had to be big enough for me to get in to..it's important to remember priorities when shopping for a toddler.

  9. I used to make my own pad thai. Now we live next door to a thai place, so I don't have to anymore. Awesome.

    1. If I lived next door to a Thai place, I'd have Thai food every single night.

    2. You do live next door to a Thai place. At least as compared to how far it is to get Ethiopian...

  10. WTF? I just accidentally listened to 14 seconds of country music because that video had no warning on it.

You are Kari are coming with me to buy my next car in like 2022.

I got really concerned when you posted that picture on Facebook that those 4 were your entire dinner and I would need to come force feed you pizza.

I like cooking and all but for ethnic foods I think I need to just buy them. I can't recreate that.

  11. You went to a yard sale and they refused to haggle? That doesn't even make sense.

You should probably get Peanut a saddle until you can get Faith signed up to ride ponies.

  12. Who doesn't practically give their stuff away at a yard sale. Anytime I've had one, I'll put prices on stuff and practically take anything. $10 and they offer me 25 cents, sure, take it!

  13. Faith is so cute on the pony! She does look much older than 2. Those spring rolls look yummy! My husband is half Thai and half Iranian and I frequently crave the foods his family makes so I've taught myself how to make a lot of them. I also recently made my own sushi (just with veggies, no raw fish because that would be too gross for me) and it turned out really well.

  14. Many avocados had to die for my food cravings when I was pregnant. I bought guacamole at Costco I loved it so much. Then again, I love guacamole anyway. :)

I don't think I've seen anything cuter than Faith on a pony! And yes, she does look older in that photo!
