Dancing with the Toddlers

On a normal day, Faith and I bum around in our pajamas for a while before getting started on the day. This is how Faith likes to ease into being awake:

Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle!

On a side note, she has advanced to the point of handing me the remote and saying "Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle!" and it kills me every time because I think of that LMAFO song.

It's just too bad that toddlers can't text

My kid is such a Wiggles junkie. She won't tolerate anything else (Dora can just take a hike as far as she's concerned) so I never get a break from the Wiggles. I know all of their songs and they have been around a long, long time. I didn't have to watch too many Wiggles this morning because we had to run early to make Faith's first dance lesson.

I was planning on doing 4 miles outside, but I took too long prepping all of Faith's food for the stroller (cutting up berries and whatnot) that we really only had time for the shorter route. It was a good call on my part because it was so humid outside. We only did 2.2 miles outside and Peanut immediately came inside and did this:

Cold leather I love you so!

There is good and bad news about toddler dance lessons.

Bad news: They don't have classes over the summer.

Good news: Faith can take 3 more classes before it ends for the summer and she thinks dance lessons are the best thing since the Wiggles.

At first I was worried when I saw that the class was 45 minutes long, but the instructor was so good about bringing out props like noise makers and scarves that Faith never lost interest. They did fun stuff like the Hokey Pokey and the limbo (luckily the moms didn't have to do that one). Faith did really well considering it was her first class and it seemed to help to have me next to her doing the dancing too (since she doesn't seem to have the ability to listen to instructors when music is loudly playing yet). I was surprised how inflexible I've become, but I also can't remember the last time I sat down on the ground and tried to touch my nose to my knees. It isn't fair stretching with little kids because they are so freaking flexible!

At the end of the class they even had a little tumbling and Faith loved that too. I can't even do a forward roll (well) but Faith was all about trying. She thought it was hilarious and wanted to practice when she got home. I need to get a video of it because it's priceless how she doesn't tuck her head at all, but laughs the whole time.

Once we got home from dance, Faith was starving and ate her body weight in Goldfish crackers (or as she calls them "FISH! FISH! FISH!") and after lunch she crashed hard for a nap. During that time I ran 5.5 more miles on the treadmill to make it be 7.7 miles for day. I wasn't feeling hot at the end, which is why I didn't make it any even 8 miles. I've been feeling like my blood pressure is low (headache-y and dizzy if I stand for too long) and I remember this from being pregnant with Faith and there isn't anything I can do other than avoid standing. For stuff like preparing dinner, I've been trying to do it all sitting down instead of standing and that helps some, but some standing is inevitable.

At least once my husband gets home I get to just sit while he hangs out with her.

Goldfish, Daddy, AND The Wiggles?? I won the toddler lottery!

I'm pretty sure one of my biggest regrets in life is not signing Faith up for toddler dance earlier (she could have started in December) because then she'd be in the recital at the end of this month. I can't even imagine how hilarious that would be, but there is always next year!

The Hokey Pokey or the Limbo, which do you prefer?

  1. OH man!! My parents still have VHS tapes of all my dance recitals when I was younger-- I started when I was 4 so you can only imagine how absurd they are! In one, we were dressed up in mermaid costumes and were holding hands, dancing in a circle. A little girl falls down, no one knows what to do, so they continue to hold her hand and drag her across the floor for the rest of the song. Priceless!

    1. Seeing them drag the body around would completely make it worthwhile to sit through.

  2. I went to a ballet recital recently for my best friend's 5 year old. It was ridiculous. Grown young women dancing around trying to coax these little kids into following her in a circle, flapping their arms and stuff.

I felt bad for the instructors, because it's probably some sort of stepping stone to becoming an actual real ballet instructor. Like a rite of passage, to have to be subjected to teaching toddlers.

  3. Thats a tough one. I am not flexiable at all and so I suck at the limbo. But with the hookie pookie I always have to pretend like I am saying the pledge of allegiance OR make an L with my left hand otherwise i'd put my left foot in when it was suppose to be my right foot. *sigh*

  4. I love the Hokey Pokey. We used to play it at the roller skate rink growing up, which was always hilarious.

  5. I got kicked out of toddler dance class. The instructor suggested I sign up for something that "didn't involve so much coordination."

    IT WAS ONE LESSON.

    I WAS THREE.

  6. There's always the next kid too! I want to see that video so bad. Faith laughing is my favorite.

  7. If that's one of your biggest regrets in life, you're clearly doing something right :)

  9. I wish my parents had enrolled me in dance lessons when I was little - maybe I wouldn't be such a disaster on the dance floor now! Glad she had fun. And, love the picture of Peanut. Glad to see our dogs aren't the only ones who take over the furniture :)

  11. Love the dad/Faith picture. Adorable! Take it easy on those runs - that nauseated/dizzy feeling is no fun.

  12. I did dance (and gymnastics) as a child and it was possibly the best thing my mother could have done - great way to get some energy out! Adorable picture at the end.
