My husband got to run around and collect these pieces in the morning, just like an Easter egg hunt!
Some duct tape and white spray paint should fix that right up.
We lost power in the storm and I was laying in bed thinking about potential survival scenarios for life with no air conditioning. In case you hadn't heard, it's ungodly hot here.
We were really lucky and by 5am, we had power again and I didn't have to fall back on my plans to run for the hills. Faith's swim lesson wasn't even canceled!
I'm going to wear my new hat to the pool, OK Mommy?
I look so excited to be heading out after 4 hours of broken sleep
She got that pink hat at Old Navy on Friday and she actually likes wearing it. I never thought I'd find a hat that she'd agree to wear willingly, but she picked it out herself and I think that made the difference. Friday had a high of 102 degrees, so we went shopping and harassed the guinea pigs through the glass at Petco as our morning activity. Peanut spent the day at doggie day care since it was too hot for me to even walk her. I don't think she minded one bit.

Foaming at the mouth means it's a party
I ran on the treadmill on Saturday, but I got up early today to go to a group run. Even at 6am, it was over 80 degrees outside and it wasn't my best run. I felt hot (and cranky) but managed over six and a half miles. My legs are totally going to forget what a hard run feels like and they are going to be so pissed when I get back to real running after I have this baby!
We stopped at Starbucks on the way home from the run (I carpooled with neighbors to the run) and it's true that bacon makes everything better. I'm a big fan of the bacon gouda breakfast sandwich and the only fault is that it is freaking small. I had to round it out with a piece of pizza when I got home. Peanut didn't come for the run, so I made it up to her by letting her drink baby pool water when I had Faith out in her pool this morning.
This water is so much tastier than my water bowl water
For lunch I made Faith her new favorite food in the whole world: ramen noodles. I've been eating a fair amount of ramen lately (it's a great food when you feel a little queasy) and of course, she wants what I have. She acted like she won the toddler lottery when I gave her a plate of noodles versus my usual tithe of just a few noodles from my bowl.
I need carbs to fuel my marathon tantrums
Oh ramen, you are the BEST.
Don't worry, she also had an organic toddler yogurt, so that cancels out the lack of nutrition in the ramen.
I can't believe how smug Mommy feels about saying "organic yogurt"
I made the mistake of laying down for "just a minute" after I put Faith down for her nap and woke up 2 hours later. When I did, I could barely walk because I had such pain in my butt. I've been having sciatic nerve pain for a few weeks now, but today has been the worse day so far. I had the same thing with Faith, but it's worse this time, probably because I'm carrying this baby further back due to the anterior placenta.
In case you don't know what I'm talking about, here's a helpful graphic.

Hehe buttock.
It's fairly painful and there isn't anything I can do about it other than whine on my blog, so you're welcome. You'll probably hear more about it this in the future.
Did you get hit by that crazy storm? A lot of people still don't have power (like my mom!) and I can't imagine getting through this heat wave with a toddler and no air conditioning.
If you eat something without much nutrition (like ramen) do you eat something else to make it seem healthier? I don't, but for Faith I feel like I should try harder. Plus, she really likes her fancy organic toddler yogurt.

1. This post was too long.
ReplyDelete2. butts are funny. And it's funny that yours is broken.
3. you used funny pictures I sent you.
Win.
I should have included Cliff Notes for those who don't like reading.
DeleteSorry to hear about your storm damage. Hope your husband has fun cleaning it up! We lost power a few days ago (no storm, just a blown transformer), and I almost lost 60 oz of pumped milk. Luckily it came back on before it melted along with my sanity.
ReplyDeleteTo justify the yogurt/ramen, I'll have you know I just put down 10 chicken nuggets, medium fries, and a chocolate chip cookie, but washed it down with a Diet Coke so it's all okay. In fact I probably just ate negative calories.
I hear that's how Diet Coke works. Good thinking!
DeleteA second post where you mention your placenta!? What's next, encapsulation talk? Love that second pic of Faith eating Ramen. I figured out the source of the pain in the person depicted in the sciatic picture: the right foot is facing backwards! I balance out a nutritionally void donut by eating a banana after. Does Faith get angry if you feed her non-organic yogurt?
ReplyDeletePlacenta, placenta, placenta! It's just like Beetlejuice.
DeleteFaith only eats one flavor of one brand of yogurt. She's not the most flexible toddler haha.
i'm disappointed this wasn't about hemorrhoids. okay, not really.
ReplyDeletestay cool friend.
Cross your fingers for a post on that later in my pregnancy. If you're lucky.
DeleteMy sister-in-law in VA got hit with that storm. Her power was out for a long time, enough that her nice neighbor snaked a cord from his generator to her house so she could keep her fridge going. Oh, and she has an 18-month-old and her husband is in Australia for two weeks. Ugh. Fortunately she got the power back about 24 hours later. It's the AC thing that would have killed me. I'm dying out here, and that's in a "dry heat."
ReplyDeleteThat is totally the kind of thing that happens when husbands travel!
DeleteThat must have been a pretty widespread storm. My BFF in Charlottesville VA was hit, too. They were without power until about 1:00 yesterday afternoon. That sucks about the damage to your house, but it could have been a lot worse!
ReplyDeleteYeah, we're always glad when a tree doesn't hit our house :)
DeleteI rarely balance out my meals for nutrition purposes. But I always do for Charlotte! I would probably have a lot less cellulite if I ate like she did.
ReplyDeleteWe could use a derecho here if that involves a lot of rain.
I've had so much back pain that my laughter has been turning into uncontrollable fits of sobbing. pregnancy is awesome.
The "derecho" seemed to mostly wind and light on the rain, so you wouldn't like it. :)
DeleteWe got hit with the storm and were without power 48 hours. Secretly wished a tree had fallen on the master bath we wanted to reno and I whined about it on my blog. Win win. Thanks for the sciatic graphic. Now when my MIL bitches about hers I can picture where it is.
ReplyDelete48 hours without power sounds awful!
DeleteNo storms in philly! Thank god!!!
ReplyDeleteIf I'm gonna eat bad I'm going in 100%!!!!
What storm - it's not a storm unless a bunch of houses get flooded and a bunch of piers get carried away.
ReplyDeleteAlso, what's this slander against Ramen? Is this more of your anti-asian stuff? No wonder Faith is racist.
Don't worry, it wasn't the "Oriental Flavor"
DeleteFor the sciatic issue, have you tried walking around hunched over?
ReplyDeleteYou should be a doctor.
Deleteramen looks like brains. you have a zombie toddler.
ReplyDeleteI like Doctor Emily
DeleteBRAINSSSSSSSSSSSSsssssssssssss
DeleteYeah--if the kid eats ramen--I serve it with avocado..if I eat it I have it with a beer...
ReplyDeleteI like your methods.
DeleteClaire loves ramen too, I always feel like a terrible person when I give it to her...that and pop tarts, obviously she's still eating the stuff so I must not feel that guilty though. We got the storm in Va Bch a bit, I woke up to the power going out but it was only about thirty minutes or so before it came back. Both the girls always sleep through house vibrating thunder, it amazes me but I'm grateful.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, we got hit. It canceled our night hike and we were without power Fri - Sun. Ugh.
ReplyDeleteSorry about your house. The good thing about renting is that the trees and window screens and other damage isn't our responsibility.
I totally eat green things to offset non-healthy things. Last night I ordered mac n cheese with a side salad. Totally cancels it out ;)
All I took away from this post is a sudden craving for ramen.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you didn't lose power for too long - that had to suck for people who were without power most of the weekend in that heat. My brother lives in Columbia, MD and had a large tree fall and demolish part of his fence. I heard the winds were up to like 80 mph....crazy stuff!
ReplyDeleteLove the pink hat :)
I love that look of bliss on Faith's face as she's eating Ramen. Food really does make people happy.
ReplyDeleteNo storms here in the northwest. We're still "enjoying" our typical fall/winter/spring weather of 52-60 & cloudy.
ReplyDeleteAnd, I always try to balance out crap that I eat. Mostly because it makes me feel good. It's all a mental game. :-)
We had a storm but it wasn't a bad one...we had a bad one last year though, lots and lots of hail damage and a big insurance claim to go with it. I'm hungry for Ramen now.
ReplyDeleteI just began poking around your blog and love it. I heard about all these storms - I can't imagine what people are doing without AC in this heat. I am so glad to hear you're family didn't have to suffer!
ReplyDeleteYour daughter is adorable. I wish I had the willpower to eating something healthy when I've been bad. :)
My father has the sciatic nerve pain after driving long periods of time. I purchased him a lower back massager (plugs into an adapter I bought for the car) and has really helped. Have you ever tried that out before?
When I eat something awful I brag about it on social media so I can feel smug.
ReplyDeleteOh, wait, I'm supposed to do that when I eat something *healthy*. Shit.
My parents were fine in the storm but I have lots of friends still without power and complaining on FB. :-)
ReplyDeleteMy grandparents had two totaled cars because of trees down. The pictures are crazy. I'm sorry you guys got hit so hard. That must have been scary.
This post was awesome! My sister has recently been complaining of sciatic nerve pain, and I didn't understand, and now I do! Thanks for teaching me. Also, at the baby shower we had some salad with dry ramen noodles and it was amazing.
ReplyDeleteI love that picture of Faith eating the ramen- she looks like she is really enjoying them! :)
ReplyDeletesorry about the pain, ugh. Good thing you have a blog and twitter to vent though! but seriously hope it feels better soon...
