Beach, beach, fabulous beach

We are at the beach! Our drive here was really smooth with no traffic and a happy toddler, but it was pretty stormy when we got here. It didn't matter to Faith because her grandma brought new toys and outfits, so who needs to go outside with all of that inside?

Yay for Grandma!

We are staying in a beach house with my husband's family, so Faith is getting super spoiled this week. Heck, it's just been one day and she's already refusing to walk anywhere.

I've named my pony "Uncle Nick"

Life is pretty sweet for me too because it's a house of people who are like "You're too pregnant to cook! Go and sit and we'll make tasty things to eat".

Coddle me, I have PROCREATED

It rained all this morning (so we hit the indoor pool), but by this afternoon it was nice enough to go the beach.

I have the shovel, I have the power

Unfortunatly, my husband actually has to travel for work this week, so he is leaving tomorrow for some super important (yet still so boring) meeting. We didn't want to miss this vacation, especially since Faith would have way more fun here than stuck alone with me at home, so we came anyway. He's leaving tomorrow and Faith decided to put him to work at the beach today so he could get a full experience in a short time.

Daddy. This sand requires water. Fetch me a bucket of water!

Yes master

Water is the key ingredient in my sand cake recipe!

I'm only going mildly crazy with not running. Our house is located right on a long paved path that would be perfect for running, but I didn't even pack my running shoes (as insurance) so I am sticking with rest, ice, and easy walking. So far I haven't noted any significant improvement, but I have hope that I will leave the beach feeling better than when I arrived!

What's your favorite beach activity? I'm a big fan of just vacantly staring at the waves, but Faith seems to strongly prefer throwing sand.

  1. How does Jeff not burst into flames out there? SPF 5 million?

  2. I went on a beach vacation with my husband's family and he had to work a majority of the time, so he flew down for just a few days. Charlotte was only about 3 months old, so it wasn't super duper fun. My favorite activity is having cocktails to celebrate every hour.

  3. Consider this my formal request for more Uncle Nick pictures.

    2. Sorry, Uncle Nick is very much taken by Aunt Andie, who has hereforeto forbidden additional blog postings about him.

  4. Ahhhhh, I'm so jealous.

This is my daily itinerary for a beach vacation: Wake, run, beach, beer, beach, beach, beer, beach, beer, shower, eat, sleep, repeat. And sometimes we'll throw a healthy competitive round of mini golf in there for good measure.

  5. We like to build sandcastles. Well, actually the hubby does it and I watch. I am dying for more beach! Jealous!

  6. I wish more Aussie's thought like Americans. I was never too pregnant to cook, or to get a seat on the bus or to lift 100lb Rottweillers onto the examination table (in my former life as a vet). And if we complain we're just told to harden up.
I hope you have a great, relaxing holiday.

    1. Wow, I'm not sure I'd make it in Australia. :P

  7. The first pic of Faith is adorable. Your pregnancy stories may terrify me, but your kid is cute!

I like Pam's beach activities. Mostly I like to lay out in the sun, read books, drink wine, shower, eat seafood, sleep. Repeat until someone drags me home.

    Have fun and be coddled.

  9. Cute photos! My favorite beach activity is sitting and reading. I haven't been able to do that for a couple of years because somebody needs their hands and feet wiped every 5 minutes because they think that sand is dirty. I'll give you 2 guesses who. :)

  10. I can't imagine how much sunscreen must be present at that beach house. When I was a kid I once sat and dug a hole in the sand for over 4 hours. Which is especially amazing when you realize that I no longer have the attention span to get through most movies.

    1. We should have gotten this vacation sponsored by Coppertone.

  11. So you're spending an entire week with your in-laws without Jeff as a buffer? You must like your in-laws way more than I like mine.

My favorite beach activity is laying on the beach reading trashy books. When we went last year, my entire extended family was there and we organized huge team competitions. That was awesome, too, mostly because my team dominated.

    1. I think the fact that they are willing to hang out with me without Jeff as a buffer is more telling than anything. :)

    2. I haven't met Jeff's family, but they HAVE to be more normal than Kara's...

    4. I don't even have in-laws. What's that like?

    5. Emily, marry an orphan. That's all I have to say on the subject of in-laws.

  12. I hope you can relax and enjoy yourself. Nice that everyone is waiting on you:) I like to just lay out and enjoy the scenery at the beach, but my boys love to dig huge holes in the sand and build things with driftwood.

  13. The beach is the BEST place for toddlers, in our experience. :) Enjoy it... hopefully those walks will do the trick. It's not the same as running, but it should help!

  14. I love the picture of Faith looking super excited. Grandmothers are the best. Kudos for you for resting, you will thank yourself later!

My favorite beach activity is reading with my feet in the sand. Never gets old. Playing in the waves is second.

  15. Faith is looking more and more like you as she grows older,

Cameron got pretty spoiled on our extended weekend to Calgary this weekend. It was "uppies" all.the.time. It was especially awesome when we were carrying baggage through the airports when there was no time for a "teaching moment".

  16. I'm jealous of your vacation. I didn't get one this year and I miss the beach more than I'd miss a year with no peanut butter. Ok, so maybe that's an exaggeration. Also, I feel sort of dumb now for complaining about feeling fat today. I'll donate one of my miles to you. I shall state, "this mile is in honor of Kara." I know. I'm special.

  17. Hope you guys have a great time at the beach! My sister lives in FL and loves telling me how beautiful the weather is when it gets cold here and I'm freezing but it's sunny and 70 there.

  18. I had to come back just to admit that I keep looking for pictures of Uncle Nick because he's a dreamboat. Too bad we'd probably have ginger babies.
