Insanity runs in the family

Since today was a federal holiday, it felt like a Sunday to me since my husband was off from work. I think it's really funny that the government closes for Columbus Day, but I'm not going to complain about it.

Funny story: I had a professor in grad school (he was just an adjunct professor if that matters) who one day went on a rant about how Christopher Columbus was a Jew and the whole New World exploration was part of a larger Jewish plot to spread their influence worldwide. Yes, really. Since I can't keep my mouth shut, I pointed out to him that not many Jews are named Christopher, but he brushed that off as "Jewish trickery".

I filed a formal complaint with the university and not surprisingly, that was the last semester he was allowed to teach there. That was the 2nd time I had a class that resulted in the removal of a faculty member, so yay me?

Anyway, back to my current much less anti-Semitic life. Tomorrow I'm engaging in a pretty insane activity for someone who is 9 months pregnant: taking a toddler to a Wiggles concert in D.C.!

Sadly, I know all the words to all of their songs

The D.C. date was added late and this is the Wiggles' last tour before most of them retire, so this is a one time opportunity that I couldn't pass up. I mean, I think Faith might be one of their biggest fans.

She even has a Dorothy the Dinosaur backpack that she wears as she watches

My husband will already be downtown for a briefing, so I'm going to have to meet him at the metro station. Hopefully Faith still thinks the metro is really fun, otherwise I apologize in advance to anyone riding the green line tomorrow.

We won't get back from the concert until dinner time, so we're sending the dog to the kennel, partly because of her time sensitive medication needs and partly because she's an awful dog.

I have no shame

Here's what she has done today:

Woke everyone up early, including Faith who was extremely cranky all morning as a result.

Vomited all over the kitchen (unrelated to getting up early).

Got her collar stuck in the dishwasher and pulled out the whole bottom shelf and broke a plate.

Paced and whined all day despite a long walk and playtime in the yard.

Purposefully knocked over Faith's Elmo toy with her nose and then seemed to enjoy her tears.

Yes, it's been a banner day for the dog.

We had a cold front move through yesterday and I'm finally comfortable in terms of temperature. Too bad that means everyone else is freezing.

Mommy, why are you wearing short sleeves?

I swear it's not that cold in the house (66/67 degrees? Not bad at all) and my husband finally turned on the fire. He was waiting for me to ask him to do it, but that was a game of chicken that he lost. Having the other person believe that you are insane is key to winning a game of chicken. Thank you game theory for that gem.

I don't understand this "I feel cold" thing

Just so you can enjoy the insanity of a 2 year old, here is Faith practicing her counting. It's funny how it goes 1,2,3,4,5,6...9....TWELVE! My in-laws got her these work books and she loves practicing her "math" with my husband.

Which would you rather do: take a toddler to a Wiggles concert or not be allowed to turn your heat above 65 degrees all winter? Choose wisely.

  1. Everybody knows that YOU are the one that's most excited to see the Wiggles. I think I have a chat log where you say that you have a favorite wiggle because he's so dreamy. (the blue one I think?)

    1. The blue Wiggle lost his appeal when I read an excerpt from his autobiography when he went into great detail about getting all of his teeth removed and replaced with fake ones.

  2. 65? Psht. I wouldn't turn my heat on AT ALL all winter if it meant avoiding anything resembling a Wiggles concert.

    I love Peanut. Sursly.

Bella did that same collar/dishwasher rack thing when she was a puppy. Poor little shit was scared to come back in the kitchen for weeks.

    1. This is the THIRD time Peanut has done the collar dishwasher thing. The first time scared her, but now she's like "Worth it" and keeps trying to lick the plates.

  3. 65. No question. As a parent, I had two simple rules: No Barney and no Wiggles. I could be persuaded on other issues, but those two rules were deal breakers for me. As for as child concerts, I took my oldest to a Laurie Berkner (now that Jew rocks!) OUTDOOR concert when I was literally 38 weeks pregnant. It was insane, but totally worth it when I got to hear her sing "We Are The Dinosaurs" live. Seriously. Google it. And when that shit doesn't get out of your heard for weeks, well, you're welcome for that gift that keeps on giving.
On that note, have a great time. I hope you get a rocking encore.

  4. I would totally take a toddler to the concert. The Fresh Beat Band is coming to my town on Sunday and I want to bring Charlotte so. bad. but my husband thinks that she's too young. She LOVES them.
Does Peanut vomiting have anything to do with eating hot fresh dookie?

    biscuit!!

  5. I would gladly go to a Wiggles concert. I secretly love singing along to kid shows and clearly need a young child around so I can start watching them again. Also, 65 degrees is freaking cold.

  6. The Wiggles kinda freak me out, not gonna lie. I turned on the TV when I got home yesterday afternoon and they were on...and they're just plain weird.

  7. This is awesome:

  8. Biscuits should always come after 12. I think Faith is onto something. I think I'd prefer the 65 thing. I showed the B the Wiggles and she cried and yelled, CHANGE! CHANGE!

  9. Wiggles concert for sure! It may be more painful, but it's much shorter. Winter is long here and I HATE being cold.

  10. Since I don't have a toddler and could borrow one for an afternoon, I choose the Wiggles. i can handle the few hours of insanity because I can then hand the toddler back to his or her parents. Plus, I looked at the conversion of what 65F is in celsius and it is the temperature my mother used to keep the house (and still does) in the winter. When I lived there, as soon as she left the house I'd turn up the heat. And now that I don't, as soon as I walk into her house in the winter I turn up the heat. She loves it when I visit.

  11. We don't turn the heat up past 66 in the winter anyway, so I guess I've already made my decision.

I really wish I could be there to see how excited you get about the concert compared to Faith. I'm willing to bet it's about equal.

  12. The heat thing. I don't think I can take a concert audience full of toddlers.

  13. I really like how you talk about the Wiggles like it's a hot band. Did you sleep in line all night to get a ticket?

I would go for the concert. I hate being cold SO much, more than anything, and I've been known to use the snuggie AND forever lazy when it's like 78 in the house.

  14. We had skybox tickets offered to us for the Wiggles for free and we were going to go, but it's a show that Cameron doesn't watch and my husband's business partner has a little girl who would enjoy it more, so we gave them up. I'm glad Faith got to go because I have to admit I was feeling a bit guilty about giving up the opportunity in a SKYBOX (i.e. the ultimate toddler experience of room to run in a contained space. Now that I type it out, I think I'm regretting that decision!

  15. I was partially responsible for two professors losing their jobs also! Go GMU!

I broke down and turned on my heat this morning. I lose.

    Also...BISCUIT!

  16. we are heat nazi's (sorry for the unintentional jew-hater reference) so the heat is never above 65 at our house anyway. Right now it's not even on so the temperature in my bedroom this morning was 57. Can you say cheap? oil is expensive here!

I haven't been to the wiggles but we did go to Blue's Clues, an Elmo show and Bear in the Big Blue House. Have fun!

  17. Dude, you have a lot of power. I wonder if you can get rid of some of my co-workers?

No heat, hands down. We already keep our house at 65 :)

  18. Wow I didn't know the Wiggles were still around! You are a brave woman. Even though that will be a challenge I would still choose the concert over the cold house. Brrrr. I am shivering just thinking about it. Have fun at the concert:)

  19. I am so thankful that I have no freaking clue who Dorothy the Dinosaur is. You are going to tell us about the other incident that involved getting a faculty member removed, right?

  20. Wait. Is that dog NAKED?! How DARE you! I should have knitted her a sweater instead of making the new kid a blanket.
